Ohio Citizens Can Pay Their Taxes in Bitcoin in the Near future

The Wallstreet Journal reported that citizens of the state will be able to pay their taxes in Bitcoin soon. The government of Ohio contracted Bitpay to handle payments in BTC and to convert them into Dollars in real time. Josh Mandel, the state treasurer of the Buckeye state, says that he has been interested in cryptocurrencies ever since his appointment in 2011. He further said that he sees Bitcoin as a “legitimate form of currency”. The state of Ohio is the first in the US to accept Bitcoin for tax payments as other states blocked similar proposals at the legislative level.

Supreme Court of India Sets Date for Hearing on Crypto Ban

The Supreme Court of India has set a new date for the hearing on the petitions against the cryptocurrency ban.
A seemingly official court document is circulating on Twitter that indicates that the hearing is set for the 15th January 2019. As reported by Quartz India, the finance ministry has filed a counter affidavit that supports the banking ban by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). However, an inter-ministerial committee that was founded to research and recommend regulation on cryptocurrencies has yet to submit its report.

British Authorities Enforce their Efforts against Illicit “Use of Cryptocurrencies”

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced that it is going to “crackdown on the illicit use of cryptocurrencies”. Christopher Woolard, executive director of strategy and competition at the FCA stated this during an event on crypto regulation in London last week. Woolard did not mention which uses of cryptocurrencies are illicit or criminal. However, he did say as well that the FCA doesn’t view cryptocurrencies as a threat. Still, the authorities should remain vigilant regarding cryptocurrencies.
