Paris-based Sequans Communications S.A. purchased an additional 1,264 bitcoins for approximately $150 million. The cellular IoT semiconductor company paid an average price of $118,659 per coin, including fees.

The purchase brings Sequans’ total bitcoin holdings to 2,317 BTC, representing a combined investment of roughly $270 million. The company’s overall average buy price across all bitcoin acquisitions stands at $116,493 per coin.

The company finances its bitcoin purchases through multiple funding sources. These include proceeds from equity and debt offerings, which are executed based on market conditions. Sequans also uses cash generated from its operational activities and intellectual property licensing revenue.

Sequans stated it views bitcoin as a long-term store of value and plans to continue accumulating the cryptocurrency as its primary treasury asset. The company indicated it will monitor bitcoin market developments and adjust its acquisition strategy within its broader treasury management approach.

The semiconductor company specializes in wireless 4G and 5G technology for Internet of Things applications. Its product lineup includes baseband processors, RF transceivers, modules, software and protocol stacks. These products support LTE-M/NB-IoT, 4G LTE Cat 1bis and 5G NR RedCap/eRedCap platforms across smart cities, industrial automation, e-health and smart home applications.

Sequans was founded in 2003 and maintains its headquarters in France. The company operates offices in multiple countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Israel, Singapore, Finland, Taiwan and China.

The bitcoin acquisition reflects Sequans’ strategy of using the cryptocurrency as a treasury asset rather than as traditional cash reserves. The company did not disclose specific timelines for future bitcoin purchases or target holding amounts.
